Three more fined for flouting COVID-19 rules in Hunter, Lake Macquarie

Two men aged in their 20s have been fined at Lake Macquarie after they were found at a home that had been the subject of repeated reports that the NSW government's COVID-19 restrictions were being flouted there.

Police went to the Edgeworth property - the home of two women - about 2.15pm on Tuesday after a report that several people had gathered at the site.

At the home, they found two men - aged 25 and 21 - who did not live at the address.

Checks revealed there had previously been calls to police about social gatherings at the home, so the officers issued a $1000 on-the-spot fine to each of the men.

In another case, Newcastle police fined a man $1000 for breaking the coronavirus rules after officers discovered he had been warned twice in the previous two days.

It came after police stopped a vehicle at Russel Road, New Lambton, about 8.45pm on Tuesday for an unrelated matter.

They fined the passenger, a 27-year-old, after he was unable to provide a reasonable excuse for being in public.

The female driver was given a warning.

Police have issued 136 on-the-spot fines and 11 Court Attendance Notices across the state since March 17.
