Three more coronavirus deaths in North East hospitals as 116 patients in England die

Three more people have died in hospitals in the North East after fighting coronavirus.

The deaths were announced on Tuesday as a further 116 people were reported to have died in hospitals around England.

The data was collected between 5pm on Sunday and 5pm on Monday, but there may be a lag in deaths being reported due to the bank holiday weekend.

Deaths did not necessarily take place on the Sunday or Monday and may have happened before.

The total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England has now risen to 25,866.

All of those counted in the NHS England figures died in hospital and had a positive test for coronavirus.

It was revealed by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) today that the number of deaths involving coronavirus in the UK reached its lowest weekly level for six weeks in May.

There were 4,210 deaths involving Covid-19 registered in the week ending May 15, according to the most recent ONS data.

It is the lowest weekly total since the week ending April 3, when 3,801 Covid-19-related deaths were registered.
