Three more Bristol schools confirm coronavirus cases as 100 pupils self-isolate

At least 100 more pupils across Bristol are now self-isolating after a further three schools confirmed coronavirus cases.

In a statement this afternoon (Friday, October 2), Bristol City Council listed the latest three schools with positive tests.

The total number of cases in schools in the Bristol area is creeping closer to 40, and many children are now confined to their homes in case they are carrying the virus.

The three schools are:

  • Holy Cross RC Primary School in Southville: One confirmed case, entire Year 4 year group self-isolating
  • Fair Furlong Primary School in the Hartcliffe and Withywood ward: One confirmed case, 58 reception year pupils and seven staff members self-isolating
  • Henleaze Infant School in Henleaze: One confirmed case, 38 pupils and six staff members self-isolating

The council's statement read: "The schools are closely following Public Health England (PHE) guidance.

"[They] have asked students and teaching staff who have come into close contact with anyone infected to self-isolate at home for 14 days.

"Bristol City Council is working with the schools and PHE to make sure that all students, families and staff are supported."

Bristol Live now knows of 37 schools in the city and surrounding authorities which have confirmed at least one case of COVID-19 since term began, including the three added this afternoon.

We are keeping a public record of these cases and the full list can be found here.

It is thought that the number of pupils combined across those schools, who have had to stay home and self-isolate in case they are infected, is in the high hundreds at least.

In a newsletter sent to parents today (October 2), Fair Furlong's headteacher Mrs Lang said: "This week we had a positive case of Covid in the school community and I am overwhelmed by the support and kind words received.

"You have really pulled together to help get siblings into school while their reception brother or sister is at home isolating. It reminds me of what a wonderful community we serve.

"We continue to carefully follow the measures and guidelines in place and appreciate your support."
