Earlier in the day, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Vijay Kumar said three local Al-Badr militants were encircled on Thursday night and killed early Friday in Shopian.

In Central Kashmir, one policeman was killed and another injured in Budgam’s Beerwah during an anti-militancy operation.

“A cordon was laid at a village in Beerwah during midnight. In the initial exchange of firing, Special Police Officer Altaf Ahmed and constable Manzoor Ahmed sustained injuries. Altaf died of his injuries later,” Mr. Kumar stated.

There were reports of the presence of local militant Yusuf Kandroo and a foreign militant in Beerwah. “One militant sustained injuries in the encounter. Following the blood trial, a village has been cordoned off,” he said.

Dhaba attackers arrested

The three attackers who fired and injured an employee of the famous Krishna Dhaba have been arrested within two days of the attack. “The three newly-recruited militants carried out the attack on the owner of Krishna Dhaba at the busy Dalgate area to instill fear among tourists on a day when foreign envoys were in Srinagar. The bike used in the offence and a pistol were seized. Two arrested youth hail from Pampore and third one is from Pulwama,” the IGP said.

The three were lured by a Lashkar-e-Taiba or The Resistance Front commander Gazi. “Gazi tasked them to strike at Krishna Dhaba, where the tourist rush is always high and the shop remains open even during hartals,” he added.
