Three Mile Inn owner reveals new restaurant and bar plans as second phase moves ahead

A multimillion-pound scheme to transform a well known Newcastle pub into a hotel, bar and restaurant has moved into its second phase.

Newcastle property, care and leisure company Malhotra Group Plc has completed the first stage of the £6.2m redevelopment of Three Mile Inn at Gosforth , Newcastle, which has created a three-story extension.

The group – which also owns Grey Street Hotel, Osborne’s and a host of other Newcastle leisure venues – has revealed more details for its plans for diners, residents and visitors when the Great North Road venue opens later this year, creating 75 jobs.

The site – which will be called simply Three Mile – will incorporate the Great North Hotel, with the recently built extension housing its 64 en-suite bedrooms, as well as a wedding and conference venue.

Work is now under way to create function rooms and private dining facilities, along with a residents’ lounge, cafe and bar.

The Three Mile’s new restaurant has been revealed as the Pizza Dough Co, which will replace the popular Scalini’s restaurant.

Inspired by American-style pizza restaurants it will have an open plan design so customers can watch pizzas being prepared and cooked in stone ovens.

An estimated 75 jobs will be created when work is complete and the Malhotra family hopes that, as well as welcoming leisure and corporate guests, the venue will become a much-used community hub for neighbouring families.

Fabian Pritchard, business development manager, said: “Inevitably there has been a lot of speculation about the Three Mile site since work began so I’m delighted we are now able to give a little more detail about what people can expect when we open.

“We are on schedule to be open by late autumn and not only are we already taking bookings for Christmas and the New Year, but our wedding team is also in place and happy to meet couples planning a 2020 celebration.”
