Three men killed in crash in Victoria's north

Three men are dead and two others are injured, one critically, after the car they were travelling in rolled and crashed into trees near Kerang in Victoria's north overnight.

All the men were in Australia on working visas and had been employed at a local winery, police said.

The 21-year-old driver from Germany, and two 21-year-old Canadian men died at the scene.

Police said the station wagon was travelling on Boort-Kerang Road at Dingwall when the tyres hit the gravel shoulder as it went around a bend, causing it to flip and hit trees about 12:30am.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Tim Hansen said police believe the men may have been drinking at a nearby hotel before the crash.

"We're considering factors of speed, alcohol and vehicle safety," he said.

One of the passengers, a 19-year-old British man, was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition.

Another 29-year-old German man had non-life-threatening injuries.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Hansen said the men's families had been notified.

"We're working with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Victims Support Agency and the TAC [Transport Accident Commission] to notify the relevant next of kin and also work with the families and their travel arrangements out to Australia."

He urged people to take care on rural roads.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
