Three men charged with murder after body found in search for Umit Bolat

Three men have been charged with murder after police divers found a body in northern Victoria believed to be missing Shepparton man Umit Bolat.

Detectives from the Missing Persons Squad and police divers found the body near Dick's Island, at Cobram on Thursday afternoon.

The body is yet to be identified.

A 29-year-old man and 26-year-old man, both from Lemnos, and a 44-year-old Ardmona man, were arrested and are in police custody.

The three man faced a Shepparton court today, and will appear in court again in February.

Mr Bolat, 45, was last seen on Sunday August 12, on Wyndham Street in Shepparton.

He was reported missing by his sister on August 21 after he failed to keep a number of appointments.

Two days after he disappeared, his bright yellow ute was found unlocked with the keys in the ignition.

CCTV footage allegedly showed that an unknown man had driven the car before abandoning it.

Police held searches in Shepparton and Cobram at a number of homes and on public land.

Mr Bolat was a long-term resident in the Shepparton and Tatura areas, and had no fixed address.

Police said Mr Bolat was sleeping in his ute at the time of his disappearance.

In Shepparton last week, Inspector Andrew Stamper said police held "grave fears" for the missing man.

Inspector Stamper said Mr Bolat was known to police and had connections to the drug world in Shepparton.
