Three men have been charged in connection with burglaries at a property where an intruder was shot dead by the homeowner.
Jack Cooper, 22, of Sparrowpit, and Reece Nadin, 20, of Horderns Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith, have been charged with burglary in connection with an incident in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire Police said on Tuesday.
Intruder Marcus Smith, 19, of Chapel-en-le-Frith, was pronounced dead after Derbyshire Police were called to the remote property in Eccles Road in the early hours of 1 May 2024.
The homeowner, a man in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of murder, but the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed last week he would not face criminal charges in relation to the death of Mr Smith and serious injuries to another person on his property.
The homeowner discharged a legally held firearm when confronted with burglars in his home, the CPS said.
They confirmed three men would face proceedings for burglary in relation to the incident and a burglary at the same property the night before.
Cooper has also been charged with a burglary at the same property between 29 and 30 April 2024, alongside Frederick Andric, 32, of Buxton Road in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
All three have been released on bail to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on 17 August.
