Three men arrested in Bury murder probe bailed pending further investigation

The three men arrested in connection with a murder investigation have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

The men, aged 34, 24 and 26-years-old, were arrested following the death a woman who had suffered severe burns in East Street, Bury.

Police were called to the scene on Friday night (July 23) at around 7.30pm.

They discovered a 31-year-old woman who had suffered 'severe' burns, according to Greater Manchester Police.

She was taken to hospital but, despite emergency staff's best efforts, died a short time later.

All three men were still in custody for questioning on Saturday evening, with police saying investigators were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

However, a spokesperson for the force has today (July 26) said that the men have been bailed.

"Three men arrested in connection with this incident have now been bailed pending further enquiries. The investigation is on-going," said GMP.

Police and fire investigators say they are working to establish the circumstances.

Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Clegg, of GMP’s Major Incidents Team, said on Saturday evening: “This is a truly devastating incident, in which a woman has tragically lost her life.

“I would like to reassure the public that we believe this is an isolated incident, and there will be an increased emergency services presence in the area as we work to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death.

“If you have any questions, feel free to talk to one of our officers who would be happy to share information.

“Although we have made arrests, our investigation is still in its early stages, and we're following a number of lines of inquiry.

“If you, or anyone you know has any information that might help us, please get in touch as soon as possible.
