Three men arrested as nearly €2m worth of cannabis seized in Clondalkin, west Dublin

Three men have been arrested after Revenue officers seized 98kgs of herbal cannabis thought to be worth nearly €2 million.

The seizure was part of an intelligence-led operation that took place at an industrial unit in Clondalkin, west Dublin on Wednesday, June 19.

The men, aged 32, 49 and 57, are currently being detained at Clondalkin and Ballyfermot Garda Stations under the provisions of Section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, Dublin Live reports.

In a follow-up search in Northern Ireland, a woman was arrested and cocaine worth €35,000 was seized.

Revenue Customs Service were aided by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Gardai from the Security and Intelligence Branch during the operation and investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokeswoman said: "On the 20/06/2019, as part of intelligence led Operation targeting Organised Crime Groups operating between different jurisdictions, a joint Operation was conducted by the Revenue’s Customs Service, the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Gardaí from Security and Intelligence section in West Dublin.

"During the course of this operation, two crates, which contained approximately 98Kgs of Herbal Cannabis with an estimated value of €1.96m (subject to analysis) were seized by Customs Officers at an industrial unit in Clondalkin.

"Gardaí arrested three males aged 57, 49 and 32 at the scene and they are currently detained under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice ( Drugs Trafficking) Act 1996 at Clondalkin and Ballyfermot Garda Stations.

"In a follow-up search with the PSNI in Northern Ireland an additional female was arrested and approx. Half a Kg of Cocaine with an estimated value of €35,000 (Subject to analysis) was seized."

Drugs worth almost €100,000 that were destined for Dublin were also seized by Revenue on Tuesday.

The finds were made in the Portlaoise Mail Centre with the help of detector dog Sam.

Almost 5kg of herbal cannabis worth €94,000 was found along with 6kg of Khat worth €3,000 in two separate discoveries.

Both packages, marked as clothing, were destined for addresses in the capital.
