Three men and a woman arrested over murder of young man shot to death through window

Three men and a woman were arrested over the murder of a young man shot dead through a window.

Michael Rainsford was killed in his home, on Harrington Road in Litherland, shortly after 11pm on Tuesday, April 7.

The 20-year-old is believed to have hit by a shooter who was on an electric bike outside the house.

He suffered multiple gunshot wounds before dying a short time later when Merseyside Police launched a murder investigation.

Now, detectives have confirmed that arrest four people on Thursday on suspicion of murdering the beloved son.

A 45-year-old woman from Seaforth, a 26-year-old man from Bootle, 38-year-old man from Bootle and a 29-year-old man from Bootle are all currently being questioned in connection with the killing.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Detectives have arrested four people in connection with the fatal shooting of Michael Rainsford in Litherland on Tuesday, 7 April.

"Shortly before 11.10pm on Tuesday, 7 April, officers were called to Harrington Road following reports a 20-year-old man had been shot through the window of a house by offenders believed to be on an electric bike outside.

"Emergency services attended and the victim, 20-year-old Michael Rainsford, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

"A Home Office Post Mortem confirmed the cause of death as gunshot wounds.

"As part of the ongoing investigation detectives have today arrested a 45-year-old woman from Seaforth, a 26-year-old man from Bootle, 38-year-old man from Bootle and a 29-year-old man from Bootle, on suspicion of murder."

Detective Superintendent Richie Salter, said: “The investigation in to the murder or Michael Rainsford is ongoing and I would like to appeal to anyone who has information and hasn’t come forward yet, to contact us.

"The information you have, no matter how small, could be vital in helping us to find those responsible and put them before the courts."

Michael Rainsford's father described his son as "warm, friendly and handsome".

The 53-year-old added: "The pain and loss we are all feeling is unbearable.

"We will never get over this senseless loss of Mikey.

"We are devastated and heartbroken.

"He was a lovely young lad, who loved his friends and family, who loved him too.

"He wasn't a loveable rogue - he was a normal young man.

"We are only a small family and can't comprehend why such a thing has happened."

The four people arrested have been take to police stations across Merseyside where they will be interviewed by detectives.
