Three members of staff at school in Wigan test positive for COVID-19

Three staff members working at a school in Wigan have tested positive for COVID-19.

Wigancouncil has confirmed three people working at Hope School and College, in Marus Bridge, have the virus.

The school has remained open since Boris Johnson announced the UK lockdown - but only for children who are vulnerable and for those whose parents are key workers.

Two deep cleans of the building, on Kelvin Grove, have been carried out.

Those who have come into contact with the three staff members have been informed.

The council said the school will still remain open, following advice from Public Health England.

A statement from Wigan council read: "Three members of staff have been confirmed with covid-19.

“The school has been in constant dialogue with Public Health England on the best course of action to take who have advised to keep the school open.

“The school has taken measures to ensure the safety of staff with two separate deep cleans and informing anyone who may have come into contact with those who have contracted the virus.”

The school caters for children aged two to 19 who have learning difficulties and complex medical needs.

A letter on the school's website said they were caring for a 'reduced number of children' and staff were attending the school on a timetabled rota basis.
