Three Manchester United players tipped to sign for Newcastle after takeover

Newcastle United are set to emerge as major players in the transfer market beyond this January window.

In a seismic £305million deal, the Magpies have new owners after a consortium backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) struck up an agreement with now-former chairman Mike Ashley.

As a result, several big-name players continue to be linked with high-profile switches to the North East.

Speculation over Steve Bruce and his future as manager continues, but once that matter is resolved - either way - clubs such as Manchester United and Manchester City will no doubt be keeping a close eye on who Newcastle are linked with and, ultimately, pursue.

Here, we take a closer look at three United players the bookies are pricing-up for a Newcastle transfer:

Jesse Lingard - 9/1

Having been cast aside by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the start of last season, the academy graduate headed to West Ham on loan and rejuvenated his career with nine goals - and five assists - in 16 appearances as the Hammers went on to claim a Europa League place. Back at Old Trafford this campaign, Lingard has been afforded some game-time, but has yet to sign a contract extension beyond 2022.

Anthony Martial - 20/1

His days at United appeared to be numbered when Cristiano Ronaldo sealed a sensational return to the club, from Juventus, on deadline day. However, the France striker was handed a rare start prior to the international break - and Martial marked the occasion with a well-taken goal against Everton. Is this the type of profile Newcastle are looking for? His odds suggest it could be a long shot.

Paul Pogba - 20/1

Not a chance, surely? Speculation over Pogba is never too far away - though if he is to depart Old Trafford midway through the season then it will, almost certainly, be to PSG, Real Madrid or one of the other big hitters in Europe. He might even sign extended terms... Similarly to other players on the list below, Pogba signing for Newcastle in a non-starter. Save your money on this one.

Betting odds: Newcastle signings before February 2022

James Tarkowski (Burnley) - 3/1

Philippe Coutinho (Barcelona) - 6/1

Jesse Lingard (Man United) - 9/1

Alfredo Morelos (Rangers) - 10/1

Aaron Ramsey (Juventus) - 10/1

Georginio Wijnaldum (PSG) - 10/1

Paul Pogba (Man United) - 20/1

Anthony Martial (Man United) - 20/1

Paulo Dybala (Juventus) - 25/1

Harry Kane (Tottenham) - 35/1

Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 35/1

Erling Haaland (Borussia Dortmund) - 50/1

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) - 66/1
