Feb. 18--TimeLine Theatre Company announced its 2015-16 season on Wednesday. Three of the four plays -- all of of which are very much in TimeLine's wheelhouse of historical, socio-political work -- have never before been seen in Chicago.
First is the previously-announced production of "The Price" (Aug.--Nov.) by Arthur Miller. Louis Contey's staging, which will feature actor Mike Nussbaum, is set to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the birth of the playwright, who died in 2005.
Then comes the local debut of "SPILL" (Oct.--Dec.), a new play about the 2010 British Petroleum oil spill written and directed by Leigh Fondakowski, a Tectonic Theater Project member and the head writer of "The Laramie Project." Like that play, "SPILL" is based on interviews and documents, and also incorporates multimedia. It's largely set in the Louisiana communities affected by the oil spill. "SPILL" will play Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave.
Next is "Sunset Baby" (Jan.--April, 2016), a Brooklyn-set family drama by Dominique Morisseau, the writer of "Detroit '67," which played Northlight Theatre in 2013. Ron OJ Parson will direct the Chicago premiere.
The season ends with Lucy Kirkwood's "Chimerica" (May--July, 2016) a West End drama that won the 2014 Olivier Award for best new play. The play, which jumps between the U.S. and Beijing, was rapturously received by London critics, and has not yet received a U.S. production. Nick Bowling will direct the play at TimeLine.
"The Price," "Sunset Baby" and "Chimerica" all will take place at TimeLine Theatre, 615 W. Wellington Ave.
