Three Livingston Centre stores close permanently due to Covid lockdown

Three stores inside the popular Centre in Livingston are to remain permanently closed despite the centre reopening after lockdown.

Arcadia Group brands Burton, Dorothy Perkins and Topshop will join Debenhams in lying vacant after the clothing and retail giant was stripped and sold off last year.

The Boohoo Group Plc bought the Dorothy Perkins, Burton and Wallis brands but only wanted the name and the stock as part of the £25.2 million agreement - forcing more than 200 stores in the UK to close their doors.

Rivals Asos picked up Topshop in a similar agreement following the collapse of the then-Phillip Green owned firm, with all their stores shutting down and staff paid off.

Administrators Deloitte previously set a deadline of May 27 for remaining intellectual property assets to be sold off.

The Arcadia Group employed more than 19,000 people across the world, with over 1000 stores in 34 countries.

Over 9,000 workers were on furlough when administration was announced in December last year.

So far up to 2000 jobs are already said to have been lost in the UK since Philip Green’s Aracdia group went bust, with a further 10,000 members of the Arcadia pension scheme facing a hit.
