Three killed, six seriously injured after passenger train hits tractor trolley in Jharkhand

HAZARIBAGH: Three people including two woman were killed in Jharkhand's Hazaribag district, when a tractor trolley they were travelling in was hit by a passenger train on Tuesday, police said. Six others were injured in the mishap.

The incident happened between Hazaribagh and Charhi stations along the East Central Railway (ECR) route. The Barkakana-Koderma special passenger train collided with a tractor trolley as it was crossing the tracks near Tarwaha village in the Charhi police station area in the morning.

Hazaribag Superintendent of Police, Manoj Ratan Chothe, described the impact as extremely severe. The collision sent the tractor trolley soaring several feet into the air before it crashed down several meters away. Passengers on the vehicle were thrown off and scattered on the ground.

Tragically, two individuals, identified as Ramesh Ganjhu (30), the tractor's driver, and Sunita Devi (55), lost their lives at the scene. Draupadi Devi (50), another passenger, succumbed to her injuries later in the hospital.

Six injured individuals were receiving treatment at a private hospital, and their condition was reported as serious.

Local residents expressed concerns about the unmonitored state of the crossing, which serves as a route for people from eight neighboring villages to reach the district headquarters. They have been advocating for the construction of a level crossing gate since train operations began in this section.
