Three key takeaways from the Bears’ final preseason game:
Jesper!
Tight end Jesper Horsted caught his second touchdown in as many games — in fact, he has the Bears’ only two touchdown catches this preseason. His eight catches this month were tied for third-most on the team, and his 121 yards ranked second. Coach Matt Nagy said the converted Princeton receiver needs to block better, though.
Bray day
Quarterback Tyler Bray has struggled this preseason but was sharp Thursday, going 28-for-40 for 334 yards and a 103.5 passer rating. Running back Josh Caldwell — who has been on the team and won’t make the 53-man roster — was almost as good, running 16 times for 68 yards.
A new playcaller
After letting offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich call plays Saturday, Nagy gave the duties to quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone. In the fourth quarter, offensive position coaches were given series, too. Nagy, who called it “a great opportunity for us as coaches to learn,” will resume calling his own plays in the opener.
