NSW prison officers have deployed gas to quell a brawl at a maximum security prison which left one inmate with stab wounds.
Three men were injured in the fight inside a unit of Lithgow Correctional Centre in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney on Tuesday afternoon.
A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said gas was deployed to safely secure a group of inmates.
When it settled, two inmates aged 40 and 34 were discovered with head injuries and a 35-year-old man with stab wounds that were not considered life-threatening.
The 40-year-old and 34-year-old prisoners were later transferred to Lithgow Hospital, while the 35-year-old inmate was taken to Nepean Hospital.
"Their injuries are not considered life-threatening," a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said.
NSW Police and Corrective Services NSW are investigating the incident.
