Three in hospital with suspected coronavirus from council run care home in Glasgow

Three residents of a Glasgow City Council run care home are in hospital with suspected coronavirus.

It emerged this morning that 10 workers at Hawthorn House are also self isolating.

The 120 resident facility in Possilpark employs 152 people and the news comes amid concerns the virus is being reported at a growing number of care homes.

A council spokesman told the Daily Record: "Three residents from Hawthorn House in Possilpark are currently being treated in hospital with Covid 19 symptoms.

"A number of staff from the care home are currently self-isolating as per the Public Health guidelines. This could be because a member of their family has symptoms, not necessarily because they have symptoms themselves."

It emerged yesterday that a quarter of the 900-plus coronavirus deaths in Scotland were in care homes.

Nearly 40 per cent of the country's care and nursing homes around Scotland have cases.

A major care home operator revealed over 120 staff are off work with covid-19 related issues.

Thistle Healthcare, which runs ten homes in Scotland, said staff had displayed personal Coronavirus symptoms in around 40 per cent of the cases.

Fourteen workers have tested positive for the deadly disease.
