Three in four people in Ireland believe tanning beds should be illegal

Three in four people in Ireland believe the use of tanning beds should be illegal, a new survey has found.

Just less than one in five admitted to using the sunbeds, with 27% of women and 11% of men saying they've tried them.

Over 1,000 people were quizzed in the survey on sun protection and skin care conducted by iReach Insights.

It found that men are less likely to protect their skin when exposed to the sun and when using tanning beds.

Just 28% of men said they use protection while using sunbeds, compared to 43% of women.

And 60% of women say they avoid being in the sun because it’s healthier for their skin - but only 45% of males do the same.

Three in four women think that the sun has become stronger and potentially more dangerous over the past few years, while only three in five men think that is the case.

Met Eireann is forecasting heatwave conditions this week and one thing is for sure: Irish people agree that the sun is beneficial to their mood.

Nearly 90% said they feel happier, 85% said they had more energy and motivation and 75% said they were more productive at work.
