Three households able to celebrate Christmas together in new Covid rules

Families will finally be reunited with the Government to allow three households to come together at Christmas.

Covid-19 rules will be relaxed between December 23 and 27 so that loved ones can bubble over the festive period.

The Mirror reports that the long-rumoured plans were approved by leaders of all UK nations at a COBRA meeting on Tuesday afternoon.

The meeting was led by Cabinet Office minister Michael Gove, due to PM Boris Johnson self-isolating.

It will be a huge boost to families who have spent much of 2020 separated by the unprecedented restrictions which have dictated our lives.

However scientists have repeatedly warned any premature relaxation of the rules could lead to the virus spreading. Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon warned it may cause "unnecessary deaths and suffering."

And at Monday's Downing Street news conference on Monday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned: "'Tis the season to be jolly, but 'tis also the season to be jolly careful."

He urged the public to make a "careful judgement" on meeting frail or elderly relatives over the Christmas period.
