Three held for online scam in Chennai

CHENNAI: The Madhavaram police on Friday arrested three people in connection with a 'like & share' scam. Several people in the city have fallen prey to the fraud, say police.

The guillibe are lured into downloading an app and investing upto 30,000 to earn upto 2,000 a day by merely sharing and liking particular content received on the app.

A special team headed by assistant commissioner Arul Santhosha Muthu nabbed the accused identified as Fakruddin, Meeran Moideen and Mohammad Manas from Triplicane. Police are looking for one more suspect. The arrest was made based on a complaint from one Dinesh, 28 of Ponniammanmedu, who lost money to the fraudsters.

Explaining the modus operandi, a senior police officer said that the victims had to pay 30,000 to become a member of the network.

Once the person is a member, he is eligible to 'earn' up to 18 per one like and share. The victims were allowed to share up to 100 videos per day and make 1800 per day for the first two days, but later the app would not work.
