NEW DELHI: A day after a 16-year-old boy was thrashed to death allegedly on suspicion of theft at a farmhouse in southwest Delhi’s Kapashera, the owner of the farmhouse, who not only thrashed the minor, but also asked his security guards to record a clip of the act, has been arrested.
The 35-year-old accused, Prakrit Sandhu, told police that there had been instances of theft at his farmhouse earlier, and he suspected the boy came there to steal. The two guards, Rohit (20) and Binod Thakur (62), have also been arrested.
Ingit Pratap Singh, DCP (South West) said, “The child’s medical examination showed that there were lacerated wounds on the back and a cut on the lateral side of the hand.”
The probe revealed that the security guards first caught the boy, while two of his friends managed to escape. “The owner then thrashed him, while the guards recorded a video. Sandhu told the cops that he thought the boy was there to steal. He made the guards record a video to show off that he had caught the accused,” said a cop.
According to police, the victim along with two of his friends had entered the farmhouse to steal and were spotted by one of the security guards and got caught.
Police said that a PCR call was received around 4.30pm informing them about a boy lying dead on the road near the farmhouse, which was called ‘Gill Sandhu Transport Company’. A police team reached the location and traced the family of the deceased, who identified him as Sandeep Mehto. His father works as a cab driver.
Police said that, prima facie, it appeared that Mehto, who lived nearby, had entered the farmhouse with his friends allegedly with an intention to steal when they were caught by the guards. While the friends managed to escape, he was caught and thrashed. Later, even he fled, but some stray dogs bit him just 50m from the farmhouse.
