Three held for attempting to steal cash from ATM in Pune

PUNE: The Pune rural police on Tuesday arrested three men from Ahmednagar district for attempting to steal cash from a cash dispensing machine in Shirur on July 20.

The local crime branch team led by senior inspector Padmakar Ghanwat took the suspects Akash Gaikwad (27), Tanmay Salve (21) and Ashish Dukare (21) into custody, when they had come for selling stolen motorcycles. The police have recovered four stolen motorcycles from them.

Ghanwat said that in the early hours of July 20, the suspects had cut the cash dispensing machine of a private bank, by using a gas cutter and tried to steal the cash. The suspects also had damaged the CCTV cameras inside the kiosk. "They however could not succeed in stealing the cash," he said.

The officer said that the police checked the CCTV footages from the neighbouring establishments and found that the gang involved in the theft attempt was from Ahmednagar district. "We laid trap and took them into custody along with the two motorcycles," Ghanwat said.

He said that during the questioning the trio admitted their involvement in the theft attempt and also revealed that they had stolen these motorcycle from Aurangabad district. "We have recovered two more motorcycles, which they had stolen from Ahmednagar district," Ghanwat said.
