Three guns and cannabis farm worth over £380,000 found in house raid

Three guns and a cannabis farm worth more than £380,000 was found after police raided a house in Southport.

In total 95 plants, a deactivated rifle and two gas powered air weapons were recovered by officers, in the warrant executed at a property on Cemetery Road on August 1.

The plants, which had a street value of almost £400,000 were found across two rooms in the house, alongside a large quantity of bagged cannabis and the three weapons.

An investigation is underway and enquiries remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Cat Walsh said: “This property contained a significant amount of cannabis plants which we have now successfully stopped reaching our streets.

"We are now investigating the incident and would urge anyone with information to get in please get in touch.

“Cannabis cultivation can cause serious harm in our communities.

"Nobody wants to live next door to a property containing a cannabis farm and we would ask that if you believe someone is using a property for this purpose, please tell us so we can take positive action and find those responsible for setting them up."

Following the find police have issued a list of signs to look for to identify if cannabis is being grown.

• Strange smells and sounds

• Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times

• Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting

• Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed

• Heat from an adjoining property

• Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather

• Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more sinister
