Three flood alerts in place across Greater Manchester as Storm Alex hits

Three flood alerts remain in place in Greater Manchester on Sunday morning.

The region saw continuous rainfall throughout Saturday as Storm Alex hit, with intermittent wet weather expected to continue on Sunday. A yellow weather warning remains in place until 12pm on Sunday.

Flooding was reported across the region overnight, with the M60 junction 11 slip road shut due to heavy amounts of water on the motorway.

The A6010 Queens Road, in Miles Platting, has also been badly flooded at the railway bridge, MancTraffic reported overnight.

The Environment Agency has three flood alerts in place in and around Greater Manchester, meaning flooding is possible and warning residents to be prepared.

They are located at:

  • Middle River Mersey catchment including areas near Bramhall, Stockport, Sale, Altrincham and Urmston
  • River Bollin catchment including Knutsford, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Bollington, covering parts of southern Greater Manchester
  • Upper River Douglas, covering parts of Wigan

Flood alerts are also in place in the Warrington and St Helens area, to the west of Greater Manchester.

The Environment Agency warned the worse of the flooding is expected in the early hours of the morning but says residents must 'be prepared' with 'flooding possible'.
