Three-figure sums of cash stolen from elderly women in two separate Paisley incidents

An elderly woman was targeted by a thief who stole a three-figure sum of money after entering her home in Paisley.

The victim, who lives in Great Hamilton Street, went through to her hall after hearing noise and discovered the cash had been taken from her handbag by someone who had entered her home.

The incident happened at around 11:30am on Thursday, February 6.

A vulnerable 90-year-old woman was also targeted by a man at her supported accommodation in the Seedhill area of Paisley on Friday, February 7. He engaged her in conversation before stealing a three-figure sum of cash and making off.

Inspector Tracy Harkins of Paisley Police Office said "These were particularly nasty incidents involving extremely vulnerable residents, both ladies have been left very distressed as a result.

"I would like to ask the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious characters seen in or around the area, in particular to dwellings where an elderly or vulnerable person resides.

"If anyone has any information relating to either incident please contact Police Scotland on telephone number 101 or alternatively contact crime stoppers on 0800 555 1111, where anonymity can be maintained.
