Three escaped horses die in collisions close to Belfast International Airport

Three horses have died in collisions after escaping from a field close to Belfast International Airport on Tuesday night.

It is understood that around 10 horses in total had made their way onto the roads around the airport.

The PSNI closed the Ballyrobin Road near the airport around 5.30pm after witnesses reported horses running loose on the carriageway and around the car park of the airport.

Police officers worked to clear the road as quickly as possible, with an update issued just after 7pm to say the matter was resolved after the horses were corralled into a field.

A PSNI spokesperson later said: “Three horses died as a result of collisions involving vehicles travelling on the Ballyrobin Road on Tuesday evening.”

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.
