Three Edinburgh pubs reopening amid lockdown offering takeaway beers and ciders

Three pubs in Edinburgh have announced they are reopening to serve takeaway beers, ciders and some food.

These are: Bow Bar, on West Bow (Victoria Street), The Stockbridge Tap on Raeburn Place and Cloisters Bar on Brougham Street.

Like countless other Edinburgh businesses, the bars were forced to close their doors in March after the Government ordered a UK-wide lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus.

At the time, Bow Bar said: “We are saddened and sorry to say that as of today we, Cloisters Bar and the Stockbridge Tap are now closed.

“We have no choice in the matter, we are all in this together and have to do our part. Including myself, we have four staff members in isolation so can not even run the place.”

Over a month later and the pubs are reopening but will only be operating at reduced hours and on specific days.

An announcement on Cloisters Bar's Facebook page says that, to begin with, Cloisters will be open Monday to Wednesday, from 1pm-3pm.

Meanwhile, Bow Bar will initially open on Fridays and Saturdays between 12-4pm and The Stockbridge Tap will open on Sundays between 1-3:30pm.

From Bow Bar, customers will be able to buy beer, from the likes of Tempest and Stewart Brewing, in 2.5L containers, which comes with a free glass, as well as bottles and cans of beers and some cider.

The Stockbridge Tap is similarly offering 2.5L containers, while Cloisters are doing the same with the addition of delicious beers in cans and bottles.

Notices on the bars' Facebook pages indicate that customers can pre-order for collection and are urged to do so, with stock selling fast.

Bow Bar are also offering a selection of crisps and have a small number of hot pies to take away.

Strict measures are said to be in place at all the bars in line with social distancing guidance; orders must be placed at the door and customers have to pay with card.
