Three early symptoms of Covid related to your eyes, experts say

Experts say a Covid infection could be detected early by three signs linked to your eyes.

A report in the BMJ Opthalmology journal has listed three signs you should look out for that could indicate the early stages of s coronavirus infection.

The main symptoms of Covid-19 are a fever, cough and a loss of sense of taste or smell.

Other signs have been reported by medics around the world - including rashes and an upset stomach.

Now people are warned to look out for changes in your eyes, which could indicate a Covid infection.

Anglia Ruskin University carried out the study, examining data from 83 coronavirus patients.

The researchers discovered that 18 per cent of patients reported light sensitivity - known as photophobia - while 17 per cent had itchy eyes and 16 per cent suffered sore eyes, reports The Mirror.

Many patients reported having eye issues within two weeks of other Covid symptoms, The Sun reports.

Health officials think conjunctivitis develops in around one to three per cent of coronavirus patients, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Chelsey Earnest, a nurse at the Life Care Centre in Washington, said that red eyes are the ‘single most important’ sign that patients have COVID-19.

Speaking to CNN she explained: “They have, like...allergy eyes. The white part of the eye is not red. It's more like they have red eye shadow on the outside of their eyes.”

However, the American Academy of Ophthalmology said this does not mean you should panic if you see someone with 'pink eye'.
