Three distressed West Lothian kittens found abandoned in woodlands

The Scottish SPCA is appealing to people in West Lothian and the surrounding Edinburgh areas for information about three abandoned kittens on Tuesday.

The three young kittens were locked in a cage and dumped in the woods at Drumshoreland Road in West Lothian this week. Pictures show the kittens bunched together in a cage looking a bit scruffy, but the Scottish SPCA said they appear to be healthy.

Scottish SPCA inspector, Stuart Murray, said, “The kittens were understandably distressed but they had no signs of injuries.”

“The kittens are approximately 10-weeks-old and were found by a passing member of the public inside a cage abandoned in local woods.”

Stuart said the cage was large and undamaged when the kittens were found, and he said they were first taken back to their rescuer’s home before being taken to the SPCA for further care.

“Luckily for the kittens, it looks as though they hadn’t been there long enough to be exposed to the elements,” he said.

“We understand that people’s circumstances can change, but this is not the right way to give up an animal if you can no longer care for them.”

The young kittens are now at one of the Scottish SPCA animal rescue and rehoming centres where they will receive the love and care they need.

“If anyone recognises these kittens or has any information, we would ask that they contact our confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999,” the Scottish SPCA said.
