Three die in 'confronting' head-on crash

Emergency services were called to the crash on Campbelltown Road just before 11:30am.

Three people have been killed and two injured in a serious head-on crash between a truck and a car in Sydney's south-west this morning.

Emergency services were called to Campbelltown Road in Campbelltown just before 11:30am following reports a truck and car had collided.

The 74-year-old male driver of the car, a male and female passenger were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before dying at the scene.

Two other passengers in the car, a 76-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man, were taken to Liverpool Hospital in a stable condition.

NSW Ambulance responded to the incident with 11 ambulance units, including two rescue helicopters.

The injured woman was trapped in the car for 20 minutes with suspected spinal and chest injuries before being freed by paramedics.

The man was taken to Liverpool Hospital with suspected pelvic and chest injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 59-year-old man, was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for mandatory testing.

Aerial footage of the area shows the front of the car having knocked down a fence on the side of the road.

'It was a confronting incident'

NSW Ambulance Inspector Stephen Fulton said paramedics arrived find to a "distressing" scene.

"It was a confronting incident, the vehicles were badly damaged, there was debris everywhere and there were a number of distressed bystanders," he said.

"We've had one of our ambulance chaplains assist with the incident, to ensure there is support available to members of the public and our paramedics at this time.

"I'd like to commend the paramedics and other emergency service personnel involved in this incident — they've performed admirably under challenging circumstances."

NSW police established a crime scene in the area and closed Campbelltown Road following the crash. The road was reopened by 5:30pm.
