Police have appealed for information after three people died and another three were seriously injured in a collision in north Wales involving two vehicles.
John Michael Jones, 18, and Leon Rice, 17, both from Ruthin, Denbighshire, and Colin Hornsby, 17, from Droylsden, Greater Manchester, died in the crash. The incident, involving a Vauxhall Corsa and a Vauxhall Antara, happened in Denbighshire at about 7.30pm on Friday, police said.
A 16-year-old passenger was taken to Glan Clwyd hospital and has since been transferred to a hospital in Liverpool with serious injuries. A 19-year-old man who was also in the Corsa remains at Glan Clwyd hospital with serious injuries.
The male driver and female passenger of the Antara, who are 66 and 68 respectively, remain in hospital with minor injuries, according to North Wales police.
Police closed the road between Denbigh and Trefnant for almost eight hours as they investigated the cause of the incident. It reopened just after 3am.
North Wales police said the victims’ families were being supported by specially trained officers.
Supt Jane Banham thanked members of the public who assisted at the scene. She asked motorists to contact police if they had dashcam footage of events leading up to the incident.
“Inquiries in relation to this incident are ongoing and our officers are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who believes they have any dashcam footage of the incident itself or footage of the vehicles in the moments leading up to the incident,” she said.
The North Wales police federation tweeted: “This is an absolutely awful incident and our deepest condolences are with the bereaving families. This is also a deeply stressful and traumatic incident for our officers to attend and we will make sure they are looked after.”
