The deaths of a woman driver, child and a male passenger at Lake Tabourie on the New South Wales South Coast overnight, was a stark reminder to drive safely over the Easter holiday weekend, police said.
The three were killed when their car hit a tree on the Princes Highway, south of Ulladulla at 4.30am.
A second man, also a passenger, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.
NSW South Coast Police District commander, Superintendent Greg Moore said while an investigation was underway into the cause of the crash, holidaymakers needed to be aware of the different regional road conditions.
“Police are trying to piece together what happened at the scene here this morning. Obviously a very tragic incident,” he said.
“I take this opportunity to just remind people of the stark consequences of travelling on the highway and looking after each other and yourselves, just be mindful of the manner of your driving, (and) drive to the conditions," Superintendent Moore said.
NSW traffic authorities are also calling on motorists to take it easy on the state's roads this Easter weekend, after massive delays yesterday.
Bronwyn Martin from the Transport Management Centre said in some areas, the congestion did not ease until early evening on major roads out of Sydney on Good Friday.
Commuters were stuck in heavy traffic outside Sydney in the Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast areas.
Ms Martin said conditions were expected to ease today.
“So what we are reminding people to do if they are heading away for the break do make sure that they plan their trip and give themselves plenty of extra travel time,” she said.
