Three who died when car crashed near L.A. River are identified

May 02--A car was traveling at a "high rate of speed" when it flew off of Anaheim Street in Long Beach and landed near the Los Angeles River by the 710 Freeway, Long Beach police said Friday.

Three of the car's four passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, said Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk.

The deceased were identified as Alicia Leanne Yanonis, 17, Fabian Cazares-Garcia Jr., 19, and Armando Herrera, 19, all residents of Long Beach, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

The fourth passenger, a man believed to be in his 20s, suffered moderate injuries and was hoisted out on a stretcher and taken to a local trauma center, Fisk said.

Heading east on Anaheim Street, the vehicle left the road where it meets the offramp, flipped and landed on the rocks near the river below, police said. It did not land in the water.

The crash had shut down the Anaheim Street offramps from the 710 Freeway in both directions. Authorities reopened the freeway offramps and Anaheim Street to traffic around noon.

Police said they were investigating if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash. It was not immediately clear if another vehicle was involved, police said.
