Three dead as train crashes into double-decker bus in Thailand

Three people have died and scores left injured after a double-decker bus collided with a speeding train at an unguarded railway in Nakhon Pathom, west of Bangkok.

CCTV footage has been released of the horrific accident. It shows the bus slowly making its way over the crossing before it is suddenly hit by an oncoming train, causing it to spin out of control.

Pictures of the aftermath show the bus completely demolished.

The Bangkok Post reports the driver, Nipon Ladathanakrit, 32, was killed instantly while two others died after being taken to hospital. All three casualties have been reported as Thai.

According to local police, the bus was taking a group of factory workers from Nakhon Pathom to the southern island of Koh Samui for a holiday.

The World Health Organisation places Thailand as the second worst country in the world for road fatalities with 36.2 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants per year.
