Three day Christmas market to take place at Enniskillen Castle

More than 40 vendors will set up stalls at Enniskillen Castle this week for an indoor Christmas market.

The Fermanagh Indoor Christmas Market will run from Thursday November 25 to Saturday November 27 with stalls being set up by a number of local independent businesses.

Crafts and handmade items will be on offer from a variety of local businesses as well as festive treats.

Many setting up their stalls had been involved in a virtual craft market which proved popular with those around the county during the pandemic.

Organiser Rosie Keaney said it was a great way for independents in Co Fermanagh to show off their products in the lead up to Christmas, and hopes it can grow to the same scale as the Continental Market in Belfast in years to come.

“We thought about a few different venues but we wanted it to be in Enniskillen Castle so it would be right in the town,” Rosie told MyFermanagh.

“Because of restrictions we do have to be a wee bit careful and it will be only a fairly small scale, but our vision is to have something of a similar scale to the Belfast markets in the years to come.

“We’re hoping there will still be a magical atmosphere, and it will bring a bit of community spirit.”

Rosie’s sister Michelle McGee set up the Fermanagh Virtual Market and Craft Fair last year as a way of supporting local craft makers in the community. Both sisters have been involved in the running of family businesses of their own in the past.

“My sister had started a virtual market last September on Facebook and it just grew from strength to strength,” Rosie added.

“She was thinking of ways of helping local businesses during a difficult time for them, and she came up with the idea of setting up this group.

“Everyone has a slot every month and we have 44 local businesses involved, and they would go live and talk about their products and show them off to people.

“It’s been a great upskilling opportunity for a lot of them, because a lot of these people maybe haven’t even used Facebook before to sell their products.”

Entry to the Christmas market will be free, with stalls open from 11am to 3pm in the visitor centre at Enniskillen Castle.
