Three critical, taxi driver hospitalised after stabbings in Victoria

Four people have been taken to hospital, including two women with life-threatening injuries, after separate stabbings in Melbourne and Gippsland overnight.

In the first incident, police said a taxi driver was stabbed in the back near Sydney Crescent in Lalor about 2:30am, after three women got into the taxi and refused to pay.

The 35-year-old driver from Thomastown was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Investigators are still searching for the women involved.

An hour later in Morwell, a man allegedly stabbed two women at McDonald Street, Morwell.

A 57-year-old woman with multiple upper body injuries was taken by air ambulance to Melbourne in a serious condition, and a 35-year-old woman with chest injuries was flown to hospital in a serious condition.

A 54-year-old man, who was tasered by police, was also airlifted to hospital in a critical condition with injuries police believed were self-inflicted.

He was arrested and placed under guard in hospital.
