RAIPUR: As Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) released the list of 49 participants across the country, except Madhya Pradesh, for Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas-2023 to be celebrated in Indore from January 8 to 10, Guru Ghasidas (Central) University, Bilaspur, student and chancellor gold medalist Aakriti Tamrakar is the only from Chhattisgarh to find a place in the list in volunteer category.
President Awardee Priyanka Bissa Vyas from Raipur and National Youth Awardee Nitesh Sahu from Mungeli have been invited to the event as guests. They will be participating in the session that will be graced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Priyanka was honoured by the President for her contribution towards women empowerment, education while Nitesh was honoured for his social work.
Meanwhile, Aakriti, a research scholar at the Department of Forestry, GGU Bilaspur, said that she had to pass through tests at several stages – district, state and national – to reach here. The criteria for the selection were academic achievements, extracurricular activities, special achievements at district, state, national and international levels etc. “Prior to the selection for this Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas, the NYKS has invited a three-minute video containing contents regarding my achievements, fluency in conversation, knowledge about Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas etc.,” Akriti told TOI.
Aakriti said she would be part of a plenary session involving the union minister for youth affairs and sports Anurag Thakur. The topic for the event is the Contribution of Pravasi Bharatiya in the development of India: Innovation and Technology.
Apart from the youths and students from India, non-resident Indian youths will participate in the programme.
The welcome remarks will be delivered by Dr Ausaf Sayeed, Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs while the union minister Thakur will deliver the opening remarks. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan will also grace the occasion.
