Three charged in relation to €550K seizure of cannabis and cocaine in Portlaoise

Three people in their 30s have been charged after more than half a million worth of drugs were uncovered.

A whopping €555,000 of cannabis and cocaine was uncovered by officers who responded to reports of suspicious activity in Portlaoise on Wednesday.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with this incident and detained at Birr Garda Station has been charged and will appear at Portlaoise District Court on Thursday, April 16.

A man and woman (also in their 30s) were arrested and detained at Portlaoise Garda Station have also been charged and will appear at Portlaoise District Court on Thursday, June 11.

Upon arrival, a man in his 30s was searched and was discovered to be in possession of a package containing 1kg of a substance believed to be cannabis with a street value of €20,000.

He was arrested and charged and will now appear at Portlaoise District Count on April 16.

During a follow up search, Gardai attached to the Laois Drugs unit carried out at a search at a property in Rossvale, Portlaoise.

Cannabis worth €500,000 and €35,000 worth of cocaine (pending analysis) and other drug paraphernalia was recovered from the property.

A Garda spokesman added: "A male and a female in their 30s were arrested and detained under the provisions of section 2 Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996 at Portlaoise Garda Station."
