Three-car crash brings parkway traffic to standstill

Police have responded to a three-car crash on Tuggeranong Parkway.

A three-car crash on a Canberra highway has brought traffic travelling south on Tuggeranong Parkway to a standstill.

Emergency services were called to the incident after 5.30pm on Saturday after reports of the crash near Lady Denman Drive down ramp.

ACT Policing said there were heavy delays and urged motorists to avoid the area.

A police spokesman said it was a "minor collision" and both lanes southbound have been blocked.

He said there were initial reports of ambulance attending to treat minor injuries.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokeswoman said ambulance and Fire and Rescue attended the scene and that hospital transport was not needed.

"Traffic has been restricted but no road closures at the moment," she said.

"Police will be at the scene for some time. We're lucky no one was critically injured."

The incident comes as roadworks began this weekend, with drivers yesterday being warned to expect significant delays on the Tuggeranong Parkway.

The Tuggeranong Parkway has been reduced to just one lane in each direction between the Heysen Street overpass and the Glenloch Interchange between 7pm on Friday and 5am on Monday.

Motorists have been urged to avoid the area or use alternate routes.
