Three Canberrans have been caught to be extradited to NSW on hit-and-run charges, ACT Policing says.

A 26-year-old Yarralumla man, a 43-year-old O'Malley woman and a 20-year-old Coombs man are alleged to have struck a NSW police officer at about 8.20pm on Monday, August 30 in Nimmitabel.

The officer suffered serious head injuries and had to be airlifted to Canberra hospital for emergency treatment. He has since been released and is recovering at home.

Three people are in custody after ACT Policing executed warrants for their arrest in Yarralumla today.

The trio will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday, with NSW police to attempt to get the Canberran residents extradited to NSW.
