Three Broncos coaches separated from NRL team on COVID holds

Three members of the Brisbane Broncos coaching staff will not travel with the team to Sydney after being placed on precautionary COVID holds.

Assistant Alfie Langer, strength and conditioning coach Ryan Whitley and head of rehab Blake Duncan will remain in Brisbane as the team flies south to face South Sydney tonight.

The Broncos said the three coaches went to "a private function" in Brisbane and the club contacted the league straight away.

"As a precaution, those staff have been placed on 'COVID Holds', and will undergo testing before returning to the Project Apollo bubble," the team's statement read.

The NRL's biosecurity protocols are not as severe for Queensland-based clubs as they are for those in New South Wales.

It remains unclear if the NRL has determined the matter to be a breach of Queensland protocols.

Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett and Dragons prop Paul Vaughan were caught violating the NSW rules on Thursday.

Bennett will not coach Souths for the next two weeks, with assistant Jason Demetriou to take the reins against the Broncos.

St George Illawarra representative forward Vaughan is also in isolation after having breakfast at a cafe on Thursday.

The NSW State of Origin player missed Thursday's 24-16 loss to the Sydney Roosters and will sit out next week's clash with Parramatta.

"We talk about it consistently, so there's no reason for it except it's selfish behaviour," Dragons coach Paul McGregor said after his team's defeat at the hands of the NRL premiers.

Brisbane is currently second-last on the ladder, having won one of its past 10 games.
