Three boys, 14, 'armed with knives' arrested after woman 'approached' in street

A woman who reported being followed by teenagers armed with knives in a Co. Down town, has been left deeply distressed.

She was walking through Newtownards shortly after 8am on Sunday, August 2, when the incident happened.

She called the police after fleeing the males and reported that she had been walking on East St in the town, a busy residential area, when she was approached.

It was reported that two of the males, who were both armed with knives, approached her and demanded money. The woman was able to get away and no money was taken.

Now detectives in Bangor are investigating the report as an attempted robbery.

Three boys, all aged 14, have since been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. They all remain in custody at this time.

Detective Constable Kennedy said: "This was a very distressing ordeal for the victim.

"I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and saw what occurred, or who has information about this incident, to call us on 101, quoting reference number700 of 02/08/20."
