Three booked for outraging modesty of woman MSEDCL engineer in Raigad

NAVI MUMBAI: The Roha police of Raigad district registered an FIR against three men for allegedly manhandling and outraging the modesty of a 24-year-old woman engineer at MSEDCL office in Roha taluka on Wednesday afternoon, after the key accused argued with her demanding that the electricity bill be reduced, as he claimed that it was exorbitant.

The Nivi-based key accused is a NCP officer bearer and member of Ashtami Grampanchayat of Roha taluka, said police.

As per the FIR, the complainant stated that on Wednesday around 1.20pm, the key accused, along with his two aides, came to MSEDCL’s office and told her to reduce his electricity bill by claiming it was exorbitant.

When she demanded the original bill, the men got annoyed and questioned her if she suspected them to be indulging in power theft. They told her that she was acting smart by passing orders at them and showing attitude.

They even used expletives and humiliated her by telling that she was not so educated to question them.

As the woman official insisted on the key accused’s original electricity bill for verification, he got peeved over her and went to her chair and twisted her hand. Then pulling her, he told her to come to his vehcile and would teach her a lesson.

However, the complainant told him that it was not the way to behave with a government official, which further annoyed the men and they threatened her that they would bring a women's morcha and parade her in the village.

The key accused even threatened her that he would ensure she was suspended from her job.

Hence, the woman registered an FIR.

The men have been booked under Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty),189 (Threat of injury to public servant), 504( Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) 506(Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34( common intention) of the IPC.
