Three bodies found in search for missing fishermen off coast of Wirral and Blackpool

North Wales Police investigating a missing fishing vessel and its three crew members has said it is in contact with Merseyside Police after a body was found on a Wirral beach.

Last Friday, police confirmed they were called to West Kirby after reports of the body of a man on the beach.

Another body of a man was recovered on Blackpool beach and was reported by our sister title LancsLive.

The 'Nicola Faith' was reported missing on January 27 after it failed to return to its Conwy port.

A search for its crew began, Ross Ballantine, 39, Alan Minard, 20, and skipper Carl McGrath, 34, but two days later it was called off.

Today, North Wales Police have said they are in close contact with the families of the missing men following the recovery of three bodies since Friday.

A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "We are aware that the bodies of three men have been recovered from the coastline off the Wirral and Blackpool over the weekend.

"We have been in contact with colleagues from both Merseyside and Lancashire Police, and we await the outcome of the Home Office postmortem examinations.

"The families of the missing crew members from the vessel ‘Nicola Faith’ have been kept informed, and continue to be supported by specialist officers.

"We would request that they are given the necessary privacy at this difficult time."
