Three best and worst Liverpool home kits of the Premier League era

New Balance have revealed Liverpool's home kit for the 2019/20 season and have gone for a retro design.

The kit is a subtle throwback to the Reds' 1982/83 strip and pays homage to iconic boss Bob Paisley and is on sale in the Liverpool FC store now.

Liverpool have had some memorable seasons since the Premier League era began.

Since 1992 Liverpool have won 525 games and scored 1,762 goals.

In this time the Kop have been exposed to some magical footballing moments and some exquisite kits.

The Anfield crowd have also paid witness to some less fashionable numbers.

To celebrate the release of the new home kit here is a look back on three of the best and three of the worst.

Best

This iconic kit designed by Reebok has to be one of the most memorable for Liverpool supporters.

This was the jersey the Reds wore as they triumphed in Istanbul.

Steven Gerrard who was the Champions League hero will always be fondly remembered lifting Liverpool's fifth European title in this special top.

Rafa Benitez's then side went on to win the 2006 FA Cup final wearing the famous strip the following year.

2008-10

Adidas designed the kit for the 2008/10 seasons and it was a beauty, especially when worn by one particular potent striker.

World Cup winner Fernando Torres of course springs to mind when thinking of this recognisable kit.

The Spaniard scored 46 Premier League goals in the season this was the Liverpool home top.

Torres will always be remembered wearing his red long-sleeved top, his iconic hairband, white boots and matching ankle tape, a time when he was unplayable.

2017-18

New Balance have designed some gorgeous strips since they became Liverpool's main sponsor in 2015, but it is the home kit of 2017/18 that really stands out.

With the thick white collar and sleeve trim, supporters adored the top they watched their heroes go all the way to a Champions League final in.

It was an amazing journey to Kiev and this kit will live long in the memory as the shirt of Mohamed Salah's special debut season.

Worst

2002-04

This was the season succeeding the historic treble of 2001 and preceding Champions League glory of 2005.

Those triumphs were unforgettable but this strip as fashioned by Florent Siname Pongolle is certainly a forgettable one.

The unnecessary faded line throughout the top ruined what would have been a classic look kit.

2006-08

Liverpool reached the 2007 European cup final in Athens wearing the 2006-08 kit as designed by Adidas.

But the frumpy looking collar was not a good look, collars are always tricky to get right on football jerseys and the manufacturer certainly failed to impress fans with this one.

The popular sports brand who have designed some of Liverpool's best ever kits got it spot on the season later with the aforementioned 'Torres' kit.

2014-15

This was Warrior's final instalment as chief kit designer with New Balance taking control for the following season.

It is a jersey that should have been fielded by Premier League champions, but as Liverpool missed out on the 2013/14 title there were no golden badges to spruce up this ugly kit.

Luis Suarez had departed, the Reds crashed out of the Champions League in the group stage and finished sixth in the league under Brendan Rodgers.
