Three B***ends pub renamed The Two Helmets in new dig at Tory double act

A Merseyside pub has re-branded in a dig at the Government after the full reopening of the country was stalled until at least July.

The pub, formerly the James Atherton on Victoria Road, New Brighton, is now called The Two Helmets.

This is the second time the pub has been re-named - as it hung signs up in October 2020 that read The Three B***ends.

Owner of the Wirral pub, Daniel Davies previously said that the re-brand was in protest at the localised Tier Three “Very High” lockdown measures introduced by government across Liverpool City Region back then.

The new sign above the door which reads The Two Helmets is yet another message to Boris Johnson and his government.

The pub's crest has also changed for a second time. The initial crest of the James Atherton was a regal portrait of the founder of New Brighton.

When re-branded as The Three B***ends it was swapped with an unflattering collage of Mr Johnson, his then-adviser Dominic Cummings and Health Secretary Matt Hancock with bells on their heads.

Now it's an image of Mr Johnson and Mr Hancock with white hard hats on with a red cross in the middle.

At the time of the first renaming, Daniel Davies, chief executive of owners Rockpoint leisure said: "The government has unequivocally blamed our sector for being fundamental in the spreading of Covid-19, despite there being overwhelming evidence to prove otherwise.

"Our business has been decimated and their lack of action has compounded the problem. Westminster’s further decision to pick and choose which types of venue may open, based on those serving meals for example, is mind-boggling.

"Whilst the renaming of the pub is clearly tongue in cheek, as far as I’m concerned the gloves are off and ministers need to understand the gravity of the perilous situation they have placed us in.”

"This is a town that finally feels like its on the up and we need funding immediately to protect our businesses and support our staff."
