Three lucky athletes have received a late call-up for the Olympics and will join the Australian contingent in Tokyo.

Doubles specialist Max Purcell has been called into the tennis squad after Australian No.1 singles player Alex de Minaur's positive COVID-19 test.

An Australian Open doubles finalist in 2020, the 23-year-old Sydneysider will partner with John Peers.

Nathan Lawson will also make his Olympic debut after being called up to the men's sevens rugby team as an injury replacement for Henry Paterson.

Georgia Wilson is the new face in the women's hockey squad with Penny Squibb an injury casualty.

It's an overdue honour for West Australian Wilson, who was ruled out of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games with a serious knee injury.

With today's team selection replacements, the Australian team stands at 487 athletes, with 260 women and 227 men.
