Three arrested over rumours about ancient temple in Jaipur

JAIPUR: Manak Chowk police arrested three persons for allegedly passing on misleading information about a 300-year-old temple in Badi Chauper on social media.

Manak Chowk SHO Surendra Yadav told said the arrested were identified as Keshav, Niranjan Sharma and Gaurav Tekwani. The accused have been held under the IT (information technology) Act.

Police had filed an FIR against nine known and several unknown persons for their alleged involvement in spreading rumours about changes made inside the Laxminarayan temple complex in Badi Chauper on the social media.

The videos had been floating on local social media groups about certain changes made by people of different religious faith within the temple complex.

The videos and photographs had been circulating since January 31. The city police took notice of the case when they learned that messages and videos had inundated social media platforms which are still being widely shared.

Police commissioner Anand Shrivastava on Thursday dispelled myths and conspiracies surrounding the case and said contrary to rumours, no new changes or construction took place in the temple complex.
